Sea To Summit Ultra-Sil Dry Bag Video and Written Review

This is a look at the Sea To Summit Ultra Sil Dry Bag. We tested out the 13L and the 8L sizes. These waterproof bags come with 30D durable nylon fabric, and are also super lightweight.

Sizes Available

These dry bags come in a lot of different sizes to choose from.

3, 5, 8, 13, 20, 35 Liters. All the sizes are different colors

Weight

(We tested out the 8 liter and the 13 liter sizes)

3 Liter – 1.1 oz

5 Liter – 1.1 oz

8 Liter – 1.4 oz

13 Liter – 1.7 oz

20 Liter – 2 oz

35 Liter – 2.6 oz

Fabric

These bags are made with Ultra-Sil 30D Nylon fabric. I tried roughing them up a bit on rocks or other abrasive surfaces, and they held up really well. It would take a lot of effort to leave a mark in the fabric.

Waterproof

The bags and fabric are totally waterproof. Except for the roll top. So if they are completely submerged in water they won’t be completely waterproof. But the good news is since they float, they probably won’t submerge easily.

I had them in the river with moving water for around 15 minutes and no water passed through the fabric or the roll top.

It took me rubbing water into the fabric for a while to get it to finally saturate it a little.

So they are definitely waterproof enough to handle downpours, short time in standing water, and other situations.

Roll Top Seal

In order for the top to seal correctly, the dry bags need at lest 3 full rolls at the top. This takes away a bit from the capacity of the bags. But it creates a good seal. Sea To Summit suggests rolling the top away from you, and then clipping the clasp towards you for the best roll top closure.

Capacity

We tested only two sizes, but even the smaller size like the 8L holds quite a bit. But as stated above, because of the need for the triple roll closure at the top, the capacity gets cut down a bit.

The 13L has about 17″ to the fill line.

The 8L has about 14.5″ to the fill line.

Durability

I tested these for a good amount of time during everyday life as well as some short hikes on the trail and one overnighter.

Since I live in my van, I’m constantly on the move and always traveling. I was using these bags to help organize my luggage while I was traveling around as well as to help compartmentalize my backpacking bag on hikes. They held up great and made my life easier by helping keep everything organized.

Overall

These lightweight dry bags would be a good option for anyone looking for a waterproof option to keep their bags organized. They don’t add much space or pack weight either.

The transparent fabric makes it easier to search through the bag without dumping everything out. The roll top closure creates a handle as well.

A good option if waterproof fabric is important to you, but they are also just a great way to help stay organized on the trail.
