Summary
The Sea To Summit Basecamp Down 15 degree Sleeping bag is well thought out and evolved from the Basecamp Synthetic 20. It's wider, warmer, lighter and has such a better overall feel to it with this new construction.Where To Buy

A Detailed Breakdown of How The Sea To Summit Basecamp Down Sleeping Bag Review by The Good Ride
How The Sea To Summit Basecamp Down Sleeping Bag Was Tested:
I borrowed the Sea To Summit Basecamp Down Sleeping Bag for a demo and sent it back, and I got the Basecamp 20 Synthetic for an extended demo. I would have had the 20 up last summer, but my wife hurt her knee, and she had to get surgery. So camping was almost impossible to do with a crippled wife and two young kids.
Size: Regular
Days:1 and 3 with the 20 Degree Synthetic Basecamp
Conditions: Low 30’s to Low 50’s Farenheight
Sea To Summit Basecamp Down 15 vs. Basecamp 20 Synthetic
The main difference is the size but the down vs. synthetic is a close second. In comparing the 2 I felt the Down was lighter and slightly warmer while still being much more roomy.
Fit
The Sea To Summit Basecamp Down Sleeping Bag is one of the widest sleeping bags I’ve ever tried. It’s so wide that it makes the 25×72 Sea To Summit Comfort SI Pad look small and spills over the sides. This is best for a 30″ pad. I’m not sure who makes a wider single sleeper pad, but if you could find a 35″ pad, this would probably work. It gives you the illusion that you are in a nice bed instead of a big mummy bag.
Warmth
I run warm, but I felt the Sea To Summit Basecamp Down Sleeping Bag and the Synthetic ran true to their warmth ratings. Getting the Synthetic in 30-degree weather at night worked fine in long underwear, and I felt very comfortable with the hood on. If it is any colder, I think I would need a liner or more layers. I thought the new down version was a little warmer in same-day tests, even though it’s much bigger than the older synthetic model.
Construction/Design
The older synthetic model was well made, but the new Sea To Summit Basecamp Down Sleeping Bag is really well designed. First, it feels great to the touch and isn’t noisy when you move inside it. Even though it’s made of thin and light material, it feels well made.
Hood/Pillow Compatability
No joke, The hood on the Sea To Summit Basecamp Down Sleeping Bag feels about four times bigger than the old 20 synthetic hood. It handled my Hest Camp Pillow (size medium) easily and would have handled the Standard Pillow (size L) with no problem. That is about the size of most pillows at home in most beds. With the Synthetic 20, I could only fit the Travel Pillow (Size Small). The only issue is that the hood is so big it’s hard to seal your head in there if you are cold. I’d still rather have this than the older model because I can just put on a hoody or hat if I’m that cold.
Zippers
The zippers on both Sea to Summit bags are special and super hard to snag. Even my 9-year-old boy had no issues with these zippers. Most sleeping bags snag for me if I’m not meticulous when I open or close them. There are also several zipper tracks to open the bag below for your feet but leave the top closed, and vice versa. It doesn’t seem to compromise the warmth either.
Pad Compatability
The
Packability
Even fully compressed in the stuff sack, the Sea To Summit Basecamp Down Sleeping Bag isn’t a good choice for any real backpacking. The older/smaller Synthetic 20 was better, but neither are great choices. This is primarily for car camping.
Final Thoughts
I really like the Sea To Summit Basecamp Down Sleeping Bag. If you car camp a lot and are an average size but want a bag that works well on a super-wide sleeping pad, this is the one.
