Testing Conditions
Steph lives in a van, so she is always searching out water sources to fill up water from. She tested this during her daily vanlife experiences.
Compatibility
The Sawyer Tap Filter comes with a variety of different attachments to help it be more compatible with different types of faucets. It also comes with a hose in case you are filling up a bottle that doesn’t fit in the sink.
Unfortunately, the filter wasn’t compatible with my style of faucet in my van. But I often fill water from different rest areas and spigots around town. And the filter fit with no issues over a standard water spigot. So now I can just fill my van water reservoir with pre-filtered water instead of having the filter directly on my faucet.
It is compatible with 17mm to 20mm faucets, hose bibs, and some faucet aerators too.
Filter
This filter uses a hollow fiber membrane to filter the water. It has a 0.1 micron absolute filtration. This means, if any of the hollow fibers get clogged while filtering the water, the quality of filtration will not go down.
The Tap Filter set also comes with a backlash attachment, so you can maintenance and clean the filter after use if you want.
Longevity
Sawyer says this filter can clean up to 500 gallons per day. And they say it can last up to 10 years of use. That is A LOT of water. They don’t put a specific number down, but basically the filter is designed to work for a very long time. And with proper cleaning, should last a good long while.
I was pretty surprised as well at how fast it filtered. There is no waiting, it flows pretty much the same as the faucet water flows out of the faucet. No waiting for filtered water. It took about 1min and 40 seconds to fill up a 6 gal tank of water.
Overall
The Sawyer Tap Filter is a simple and straight forward product. It is a great option for campers, vanlife, or travel. It takes up little to no space, and needs no electricity or anything to use. I love the longevity of the filter, and that I can easily fill my entire van water reservoir with filtered water.
