Summary
The Outdoor Vitals StormLoft TopQuilt is a very lightweight quilt that gives you a good insulation option for either ground sleeping or hammock camping. The TopQuilt comes with treated 800 fill down that is DWR treated and responsibly sourced. It had great loft to it and was very comfortable mixed with the Outdoor Vitals UnderQuilt and their Solo Hammock System.Where To Buy

Weight: 14.5 oz
Packability
Although I didn’t get a stuff sack to stuff this into, it could pack down to be pretty compact. I think the ratio of the insulation to the weight and pack-ability were really well done. The TopQuilt from Outdoor Vitals keeps it simple so you get everything you need for sleeping comfort but nothing you don’t. This way it stays lightweight and the extra materials stay minimal.
Dimensions: 74″ Long x 54″ Wide (Regular Dimensions)
Durability
For being an ultralight option, I felt like the 10D ripstop nylon is durable enough that I wouldn’t be worried about damaging it all the time. The ripstop nylon seemed strong enough so you don’t have to stress about it being damaged easily. But if anything were to malfunction, Outdoor Vitals has a lifetime warranty on all their products.
Functionality
This is a super simple sleep system. No zippers, no inner pockets, not bells and whistles. You get a sleeping quilt that has an enclosed footbox to keep your feet well insulated. You get a button/snap closure at the top along with a cinch draw cord if you want to keep the air from coming in. If you are using a sleeping pad, there are two buckles attached so you can clip it to their pad strap. And I like that the foot box has horizontal baffles. This keeps the insulation in place and your feet warmer. Then there are vertical baffles throughout the body portion.
The 30 Degree TopQuilt mixed with their 15 Degree UnderQuilt was super comfortable for me. Temps only got down to 40 degrees when I slept in it, but I didn’t feel like I had to layer up or anything. And usually I do. But the insulation is rated for men. Normally women’s sleeping bags have a little extra insulation, so the 30 degree rating on the TopQuilt might be slightly higher for women.
Final Thoughts
This 30 Degree TopQuilt from Outdoor Vitals would be a great option for someone looking to minimize their sleep system to something lightweight and warm at the same time. I felt like the loft in this TopQuilt was great, and I enjoyed sleeping with this in a hammock system along with a ground sleeping set up. I think Outdoor Vitals did a great job at keeping the TopQuilt ultralight without cutting down on quality. And it has a great price point for the amount of insulation you are getting without sacrificing quality for price. The prices range from $189.97 to $254.97 depending on the temperature rating you need.
