Grand Trunk Rovr Hanging Chair Video and Written Review

This is a look at the Grand Trunk Rover hanging hammock chair. This chair is designed to give you the comfort of a hammock, with the upright abilities of a chair. It is fairly lightweight, compact, and very simple to set up and take down. It also comes with the 10′ straps and carabiners to hang the chair up. Everything you need with one purchase.

Rover Hanging Chair: 300 lbs ( we tested it with about 235 lbs and it held up just fine)

Measurements

Packed: 5″x 5″x 7″ (The straps fit into the hammock stuff sack. So it all packs down into one piece.)

Open: 5’8″ x 4’10” (Plenty of space to accommodate a lot of different sized people)

Straps And Carabiners Included

I love that the Rovr comes with Grand Trunk’s 10′ straps. If you bought those separately they cost $30. So honestly it’s a pretty good deal to get the chair and the straps together.

Durability

All the stitching and stress point seem to have re-enforced stitching. There’s also a stretchy elastic that lines all the fabric panels that make up the hanging chair.

The Rovr comes with a lifetime guarantee. So even if for some reason something fails, Grand Trunk backs their product for life. I think that’s pretty cool.

Set Up & Tear Down

Set up is very quick and easy with the Rovr. As I mentioned in the video, the most difficult part is finding the ideal pair of trees to use. Other than that, set up is pretty straight forward. Tear down is even quicker. And it is pretty easy to pack everything into the storage bag attached to the chair (including the straps)

Comfort

The first time I set the chair up, I hung it pretty tightly between the two trees with little slack. I found the chair more comfortable when it has more slack in it. If it is too tight, the head rest area of the chair pushes my head forward too much, making it a bit uncomfortable. With more slack in the line, the chair becomes much more comfortable to sit in, but still offers support for sitting upright.

I like that there’s option for adjusting the height of the chair depending on how high you hang the hammock straps. This makes it a much better choice for tall or short people. It also has plenty of room for spreading out or changing sitting positions.

Overall

This Rovr Hanging Chair from Grand Trunk is a great piece of gear to take along on a day hike, to the park, to hang out beside a lake. Anywhere that you are wanting to have a comfortable, upright sitting position. It appeals to myself as an avid hammock user. I probably wouldn’t bring this along with me on a backpacking trip, as I would be plenty happy to just sit in the same hammock I sleep in. So this makes more sense as a short adventure or day hike addition to add a bit of luxury and comfort. As long as there will be trees around to hang it on.
