CEP MAX SUPPORT KNEE SLEEVE REVIEW
This is a look at the CEP Max Support Knee sleeve. This compression sleeve comes with a seamless construction, a silicone patella ring, and extra supports along the IT band and inner leg as well.
Ethics Statement: We don’t get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews. No one is perfect and we do make money from the “Where To Buy” links below, but this is our best attempt at an honest and objective review from an average hikers’s & rider’s perspective.
How This Review Happened: We were sent this knee sleeve to test out and review.
Testing Environments
Steph tested this Max Support Knee Sleeve along with the Mid and the Light knee sleeves from CEP on multiple day hikes. Most of the hikes ranged from 7.5 miles/day and anywhere from 1,000ft – 2,000 elevation. So a lot of up and a lot of down. (The downhill is where Steph feels most pain in her knees.) She also tested this compression sleeve while snowboarding for a bit in July and August up at Mammoth Mtn.
Size Tested: S ( The XS size would have fit Steph’s specs a bit better. The S still worked, but the fit wold have been more snug with the XS)
Sizing Available: Unisex sizing from XS-XL

Non Slip Stays
The Max Support Knee Sleeve comes with two silicone support beams along the IT band and the inner leg. These help keep the knee sleeve in place, and also offer added stability along the outside and inside of the knee.
Silicone Patella Ring
It comes with a removable silicone ring that goes around the patella. Offering a bit more protection around a very vulnerable part of the knee.
Testing Environments
Steph tested this knee sleeve while snowboarding and also on several hikes around the Eastern Sierra. Most of the hikes ranged from 7.5 miles/day and anywhere from 1,000ft – 2,000 elevation gains.
Seamless Construction & Comfort
All CEP’s knee sleeves are woven together in a way that creates no seams. The different compression zones are all seamlessly constructed making for a very comfortable sleeve to wear while being very active with a lot of movement.
I found the Max Knee Sleeve to be very comfortable. Even though it offers maximum support and has a thicker material than the Mid or Light knee sleeves, I didn’t get any hot spots from this sleeve and it didn’t feel too bulky.
Even with the patella ring in, it still wasn’t too bulky. It fit well under my hiking pants and under my snowboarding layers while riding.
Experience
I suffer from a couple over-use injuries and knee pain, especially while going downhill. It was very interesting to experience how wearing the knee sleeve helped alleviate the symptoms I get in my knees. It also seemed to help with muscle fatigue, and my legs seemed to last longer while snowboarding as well.
While hiking, I would wear the sleeve on one knee for a bit and then switch. I also switched between the different compression types that CEP offers as well. When I had the sleeve on one knee I noticed the difference in performance and strength between the knee without the sleeve and the knee with the sleeve. The cool part was, when I switch the sleeve to the other knee, my knee pain went away almost instantly.
Even if I started wearing the knee sleeve mid-hike while my knee was already angry. However, for my needs, the Max support sleeve was a bit overkill for hiking. I liked it much better while snowboarding. And I liked having the bit of extra protection around my knee cap as well. Especially for riding park.
