Burton AK Stagger 2L 2013 - 2012 Review by The Good Ride

We have had The Burton AK 2L Stagger Pants for many years and in many different varieties. If you look on line you can see AK 2L pants for sale that are up to 3 or more years old and in soo many different varieties. The Stagger Pants are sturdy, usually, have a thick material on the outside, have to fleece in the butt/knees and last for a long time.  You can’t go wrong with almost any style of these AK pants but these are the only flagship pants that have light insulation. Another thing that is great about these pants is Burton’s customer service.  Keep your receipt and if you ever have an issue with the seems Burton will fix them.

Ethics Statement: We don’t get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews.  No one is perfect and we do make money from the “Where To Buy” links below, but this is our best attempt at an honest and objective review from an average riders’ perspective.

Overall:

Like we said above we have had many versions of the Burton AK Stagger Pant over the years and for the most part, the design is very consistent. The only issue we have had is the mysterious disappearing of the fleece in some of the pants between 2008 and 2010.  We are happy to see that the fleece is back in the knees from 2011-2013.  The AK Stagger Pant is very similar to the AK 2L Cyclic pant. The only real differences is the Cyclic only has a mesh liner throughout the pant and no fleece.  Other than that it is just a style/pocket thing.  Now back to the Stagger.  Over the years the pants have been getting less and less baggy. It’s more form fitting from the crotch to the knees and then bags out to fit the boots. We liked the freedom of movement with the baggy pants of the past but so far are pretty happy with the newer fit of the 2011-2013 models. The 2012 is a little more snug than the 2011 and the 2013 is just a tiny bit snugger than the 2012.  The price is pretty high but we love how Burton gives these things a lifetime warranty.  It gives you the feeling you get as a skier with Arcteryx and other high-end articles of clothing. Most of our pants have held up well with over 50 days a year on them for many years. Some have over 4 years and with proper care continue to block out the elements just like day 1. The reliability shows that the AK 2L Stagger Pant is well built and a solid recommendation for the 100 day a year rider.   It is also a great call for that rider who gets 30-50 days a year in and wants to wear 1 good pant for any condition.  2011-2013 the Burton AK 2L Stagger is offering old school buttons instead of snap buttons.

In conclusion, Burton is doing a great job at offering a pant that doesn’t make the snowboarder want to wander over to the high-end clothes designed for skiers.
