Burton Malavita Restricted EST 2013 - 2012 Review by The Good Ride

So the Burton Malavita Restricted EST is a great binding. The fact that it’s Burton board only can be overlooked when you feel the extra ollie power, better flex under foot and incredible tip-tail response.  If you only ride Burton boards this could be a great fit for the rider that lives to ollie, butter, and press.

Ethics Statement: We don’t get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews.  No one is perfect and we do make money from the “Where To Buy” links below, but this is our best attempt at an honest and objective review from an average riders’ perspective.

The Burton Malavita Restricted EST is the same binding as the standard EST Malavita but it has a winged high back to help with better leverage for flexing a board lengthwise for butters, presses and such.  It also has the same added ollie power with the hinge tech  Both are great bindings but this has more outer leverage and the same inner freedom. If you are getting the Malavita we like this one over the regular EST because of those wings.

Flex: Same flex that seems like it would be more responsive but it’s actually happier with softer flexing and easier turning boards.

Adjustability: Very easy to get dialed out and

Comfort: The Burton Malavita Restricted EST is very comfortable and one of the better bindings to get a full day on the hill with.

Heel-Toe Response:  Almost all Burton boards are pretty easy to turn these days so you don’t have to worry as much about response.  I’d just stay away from the medium to stiff camber boards but the boards with rocker have no problem with the Malavita.

Tip-Tail Response:  Incredibly easy to butter and it makes the boards under your feet feel softer. The hinge tech is unique to the industry and makes any board easier to ollie.

Boot Support:  Very supportive on the outside and loose/free on the inside. The strap tapers down a lot on the inside.

Ratchet System:  Just like all the high end ratchets with Burton.  Excellent.  It’s so good you forget about it.

Shock Absorption: The Burton Malavita Restricted EST comes with the thickest most shock absorbent canted footbed option.  There is a 5mm thick option that makes the board feel more like a skateboard because there isn’t much of a barrier between your boot and the board.  Some prefer the extra feel over shock absorption.
