Summary
The Nitro Alternator was already a favorite among advanced riders in its men’s version, and the Nitro Women’s Alternator brings that same aggressive, all-mountain performance in a size and flex better suited for women. I had the chance to ride this board multiple days throughout the season, testing it in different conditions at Mission Ridge as well as at my local mountain, Mount Bachelor.Where To Buy

Sizing

The board comes in several sizes including 142, 146, 149, and 152. I rode the 149, which felt perfect for me. It is designed for riders between 90 and 140 pounds and has a narrow 24.4 cm waist width that works best for smaller feet. While it’s ideal for a size seven boot, I was still comfortable on it with my size eight.
This board is built specifically for smaller riders with smaller feet. If you fall outside the recommended size or weight, the men’s Alternator may be a better fit, since it rides very similarly.
Shape

The Women’s Alternator is essentially a carbon copy of the men’s version with a few tweaks. It has a mild five millimeter taper and a 15 millimeter setback stance. Even though it’s directional, the board feels like a true twin thanks to the centered feel and camber profile, making it comfortable to ride both regular and switch. For this reason, it’s best described as a directional all-mountain board.
Camber Profile

The board features true tip-to-tail camber with significant lift, requiring strength and skill to manipulate. While it can feel sketchy skating or on cat tracks, it provides incredible stability and control when riding, even at high speeds.
Edge Hold
The dual aggressive sidecut widens in the nose and tail while narrowing in the middle, making it both quick and playful but still locked in during turns. At higher speeds, the edge hold is excellent. At slower speeds or when traversing, it can feel less secure. Nitro boards do not use additional edge disruption like Gnu, Lib Tech, or Jones, so this model may struggle in icy East Coast conditions.
Flex
The men’s Alternator rates at 8/10 stiffness while the women’s version is tuned down slightly to 7/10. The camber makes it feel stiffer, but the nose and tail have more play. This balance creates a very poppy and responsive board, aggressive but still playful when pushed.
Uneven Snow
It performs well in a mix of groomers and off-piste, but in heavy, set-up slush, the board can feel bulky and jarring. In softer snow and powder, the ride is much smoother and more enjoyable.
Switch and Park
Thanks to its centered camber, the Alternator rides switch comfortably. The V-shaped carbon stringers give it snap and pop for jumps. It even performs well in the pipe with enough stiffness and edge hold for confidence. It is not ideal for jibbing due to the dual sidecut angles, but it butters surprisingly well thanks to flex through the center.
Speed
This board loves speed. It feels stable when pointing it, fast to turn, and fast to carve. It handled a banked slalom race format impressively, maintaining confidence in quick adjustments and off-piste conditions like trees or tracked-out powder.
Base Glide
The Women’s Alternator comes with a centered speed formula base with factory wax. Out of the box, the glide was decent, but like most high-end boards, it benefited greatly from additional waxing specific to conditions. With proper tuning and care, it rides fast and smoothly.
Powder Performance
The reference stance is 19.5 inches. Set all the way back, it increases to 20 inches and gives nearly three extra inches of nose. Combined with the mild taper, this allows the tail to sink and nose to rise, making it a competent powder performer even though it’s not powder-specific.
Final Thoughts
It charges hard, carves beautifully, and delivers explosive pop. With a narrower waist and slightly softer flex, it accommodates smaller riders while staying fast, responsive, and playful.
If you are an advanced rider who craves speed, precision, and all-mountain versatility, the Nitro Women’s Alternator deserves a top spot on your list. For me, it has earned a place in my personal collection as an everyday charger and one of my favorite boards.
