Burton 2L Gore-Tex Murdoc 2014 Review by The Good Ride

Burton 2L Gore-Tex Murdoc Pant hits a nice price point for Gore-Tex and it has a more modern tighter fit.  Some might like this but others might not.  For me, the pants were too tight in the crotch region and racked my balls when I walked but I really wanted them to work for me because the rest of the fit was good. If a slim but not too slim fit works for you these pants will be great.

Size Tried: Medium
James’ Specs:
Height: 5’10”,
Weight: 195 lbs,
Waist 33”
Hips 42”
Inseam 30”
Upper Thigh 24.5”
Middle Thigh 22”
Calves 17”
Turn On’s: Size M pants that fit well around my thighs, Riding with Friends, Open Roads, new gear and especially my wife.
Turn Off’s: M Pants that I can’t get up over my thighs, traffic, and people who can’t park inside the lines.

Fit: This felt tight and I was pretty bummed as I really liked the look. My legs are a little on the thick side and with the tightening of Burton’s pants, it’s really limited me with the options I have.  To me and people with semi-thick legs, Mid Fit means tight fit.  There is nothing worse than walking up the stairs in your house to see how the pants look on you in your mirror and racking your balls on the first two steps.

Construction: Really good construction like almost all pants that come from Burton. The material feels sturdy and something that can last 100 days without much issue.

Insulation/Warmth: There is nothing special going on with the lining but the material is pretty thick so it gives more warmth than a thinner shell pant.  It’s just a little shy of pants with mapped fleece lining like the Burton AK Swash Pant.

Waterproofing: Gore-Tex 2 layer waterproofing is pretty bombproof.  You have really solid waterproofing and breathability and you have a pant that doesn’t look much like the AK line or most high-end technical outerwear.

Breathability: You know Gore-Tex is pretty amazing when it comes to waterproofing but it seems to be just a bit above average when it comes to breathability. It’s no slouch but I’ve warned other pants with another tech that’s more breathable.

Overall: I wish this didn’t rack my balls climbing steps because I liked this pant. I’d like to see a little more room in the crotch region but other than that it’s not bad. I think people with normal thighs would like this pant because there would be more room for your balls. If your thighs are like mine I’d stay away from what Burton calls Mid Fit pants. Stick with Sig Fit and AK fits.
