Positives

  • Super Warm
  • Excellent Construction
  • Great Feel Inside Pockets

Negatives

  • No Pit Zips
  • Only for Cold People or Extreme Cold

Summary

The Skyline Super Furnace Puffy is often too warm for me to use in medium-ish temps I see at Mt Bachelor, but it absolutely does its job. If you see a lot of cold, wet weather and need a seriously warm mid-layer, this is it.

Fit

Tight but good for an underlayer without looking weird if I want to wear it as an outer layer. There is something intangible about the fit that’s hard to describe. It just feels like it’s part of you. I don’t have that feel with most jackets but Skyline is doing something special.

Construction

I don’t fully understand 3D Stitching, but what I see of this Skyline Super Furnace’s construction is exceptional. This is on par or possibly better than many high-end brands like Burton, Arcteryx, Patagonia, and others. I didn’t expect this from such a small brand.

Waterproofing/Breathability

Limited waterproofing is happening here, and my only complaint is it’s hard to regulate the heat you generate inside this ultra-warm puffy.

Warmth

I don’t want to talk about primaloft gold that’s in the jacket, but instead, say there is a shit ton of warmth. It feels pretty sealed in when I zip up the jacket. I wish there were pit zips, though, because this is too warm for most days I ride. What happens is I end up mostly wearing it on cold nights when I’m out about the town. I did get this on a day where is was -8F with the wind chill

Cuffs

Nice elastic cuffs that just work.

Pockets

There are 3 pockets. Two waist pockets and one media pocket but the waist pockets double as skin or goggle pockets. This will really keep your skin warm if you are split-boarding.

Conclusion

If you run cold or see a lot of extremely cold weather, this is the mid-layer for you. This is expensive for a mid-layer, but you get a lot more at a lower price vs. most of its competitors offering the same warmth. It’s so damn warm I haven’t had a day on the mountain with it. It’s just not cold enough.
