Sole Softec Ultra 2013 - 2011 Review by The Good Ride

The Sole Ultra Softec Snowboard Boot Insole is made for high volume shoes but isn’t bad in most snowboard boots.  The Ultra is a step up in cushioning from the Sole Soft Tech Response and that is why there is a little more volume.  Despite the extra volume, these are still our favorite Sole insert for snowboard boots.

Ethics Statement: We don’t get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews.  No one is perfect and we do make money from the “Where To Buy” links below, but this is our best attempt at an honest and objective review from an average riders’ perspective.

Here are some things we like about the Sole Softec Ultra
1. No other snowboard boot insert other than Montrail comes in individual sizes IE 7, 8, 9, 10, etc. Most are 7-9, 9 1/2- 11 etc.
2. You can heat mold Sole, ShredSole and Montrail to fit your foot. Superfeet and the competitors don’t really have this option unless you go in for a custom fit at a very high price.
They are almost the same size as the inserts that came with your boot, have a deep heel cup, a moisture-wicking top layer, arch support, high-density EVA frame…blah blah blah. The bottom line is they are a little more than superfeet but are very much worth it to have a  heat molded custom fit.  We don’t have messed up feet at the good ride but have to admit things were much more comfortable and supportive with Sole than Superfeet.
Here are some things that need improvement
Sole does not make a snowboard boot specific insole and it shows in some aspects.  The Ultra has the most cushioning out of any Sole insole but we still feel the Heel Cup needs some work.  The hard rubber that lines the entire bottom of the insole is great for the arch support and keeping the outer edges of the heel in place.  However many snowboard inserts have removed the hard lining in the heel and have cushioning in the heel.  Thay way it can create a pass-through to the very good shock absorption most snowboard boots have below.
All in all the Softec Ultra is a good snowboard boot insole.  If you want the most support then one of the 3 Sole insole options is the way to go.   Nothing still comes close to custom orthopedics but for the price, these aren’t a bad choice.
