Summary

The Capita Totally FKn Awesome is a mouthful to say but a fun mouthful.  It's a good aggressive all mountain ride that gives what most riders in this category want. They want a poppy, stable and aggressive camber like ride but also want to get a little modern float. It's a nice compromise between the two.

Capita Totally FKn Awesome 2015 - 2012 Review by The Good Ride

Ethics Statement: We don’t get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews.  We do make money from the “Where To Buy” links, but this is our best attempt at an honest and objective review from an average riders’ perspective.

FYI The extension in the middle of the waist makes the waist bigger than it looks. Some of the longer boards can fit a mid/wide boot but most better fit regular feet.

2015 Capita Totally FKn Awesome Review

I don’t know if it’s because time has passed or that the Capita Totally Fk’n Awesome has lightened up a little since I first tried it back in the day but this time it felt more like the BSOD before it became more of a directional freeride board. That is a very good thing and I had a blast on this.

Size: 157
Days: 10+
Conditions:
Riders: James,
Boots:  Burton Imperial
Bindings: Union Factory
Set Up: Set back a little bit 23″ wide 15 front -6 back

Approximate Weight: The 2015 model felt lighter than the previous models and the 157 weights 6.2lbs

On Snow Feel:  The Capita Totally FK’n Awesome requires you to have some game to ride this.  It’s not a forgiving hybrid camber ride.  There is a pretty solid camber arc that goes past the bindings and then a pretty decent rocker after to compensate for that downward bend.  It’s stable and consistent in all conditions which is a plus and it makes for a fast carvy aggressive ride that also isn’t a bitch to stay afloat when it dumps. It wants to carve, bomb, carve and launch off things.

Turn Initiation: Pretty quick and snappy turns come from the TFA. Maybe it’s just the fade of time but it feels more this year like the BSOD of old and it made quick turns pretty well and wider turns even better.  There is a nice spring out of each turn.

Flex: Pretty stiff but not bad when it comes to a butter if you put a little strength behind it thanks to the kick/rocker in the nose/tail.

Edge Hold: Love the little bump in the waist they call death grip.  It gives this board a little more hold which helps a lot in harder snow.  It’s still not bottomless grip in hard snow but it holds and it’s by no means an ice specialist. That bump doesn’t get grabby either in softer snow which is good.

Powder:  No powder yet with this board but I have had some with the old BSOD when it use to have almost the same shape. The nose should float well and with the  1/2″ set back it helps with the directional float.

Carving: This is a very fun carver.

Speed: This isn’t a bomber compared to big directional freeride boards but it holds really well with just about any run you encounter.

Uneven Terrain: Not super easy to deal with messy end of the day snow and gets a little cranky.   It is however pretty good turning through moguls.

Switch: It’s definitely different switch but its very doable once you get use to the board.

Jumps: Very good pop for an ollie and the board springs well off natural features without a problem. Because of the same reason it’s not perfect riding switch it’s not perfect for the rider that incorporates switch take offs and landings in their air time.  However it pops with the best of them off natural terrain and you can get pretty high.

Jibbing: No fucking thank you.  I’m sure a strong rider could handle this in the jib park but this stiff flexing camber board is just too much for me to even try.

Pipe: I think a lot of riders will enjoy this in the pipe.  It’s not super forgiving but I really liked how it went through the pipe. Those that like to go big would probably really appreciate it’s stiffer poppy flex.

So all in all the Capita Totally FK’n Awesome is a board that either improved or just grew on me over the years since it’s introduction and I think it’s a solid ride for those that want that older camber feel with better float in powder.

2013 and 2014 Capita Totally Fkn Awesome Review

It use to be very similar to the 2013 and below Capita BSOD but the 2014 BSOD changed a lot and became a much more directional ride. So now it puts the Capita Totally FK’n Awesome as the top Aggressive All Mountain ride in Capita’s line. When the shape of the BSOD (2013 and below) was very similar to the TFA we liked the BSOD better but this is still a very good ride that can make the right aggressive all mountain rider happy.  It also has much better graphics this year (2014).

Size 159

Days: 5
Conditions: Really perfect semi soft carve friendly snow with some thick soft snow in the trees and a few really hard to borderline icy days.
Riders: James, Jimbo, Peter, Kyle and a few others.
Bindings: Union Atlas, Union Charger
Boots: Burton SLX, Nike Kaiju, Burton Ion

The 2013 Capita BSOD was a board that we really enjoyed so we pretty much expected the same thing from the Totally FKn’ Awesome since there are very very similar.  It comes in sizes a little shorter and a little wider. We felt the Totally FK’n Awesome rode bigger than the BSOD and felt a little more aggressive than it’s more expensive big brother. We also felt it wasn’t quite the board the BSOD was but it could make many a rider happy.

On Snow Feel:  The Capita Totally FK’n Awesome is a great  board take it out and carve the mountain when the conditions are good.  It’s also really fun at higher speeds.  It’s got a pretty locked in feel and requires you to be on your game.  It’s super stable.

Powder: The setback is the same as the BSOD at 1/2 an inch which makes it an easier float for directional powder riding. There is also a pretty high rocker after the high camber so it keeps the board afloat very well. The TFK’n is ok edge to edge but it’s not super quick when dealing with tight tree runs but you can manage.  You can get a little slashy and it’s great for wide open faces.   We felt the BSOD was a little bit better in all around powder riding.

Turn Initiation and Carving:  Just like the BSOD we had a blast carving but the personality is slightly different when it came to turn initiation.  When it came to short quick turns the BSOD was better here and we felt this took a little more work for the same board size.  More work isn’t always bad and many of us actually prefer a board that isn’t super easy so we liked this feel.

Speed: This felt almost as fast as the BSOD.  Capita says this is more damp than the BSOD and we’ll believe them because we didn’t  push either to their limits and don’t care to.  I like what’s still remaining.  We will say that we thought the BSOD held and picked up it’s speed better on a long cat track or through a flat zone than the Totally FK’n Awesome but it’s always hard to tell when you ride them on different days.

Uneven Terrain: What is a great board at speed isn’t always great when you have to slow down and deal with bumpy terrain. It’s fine hitting a tracked out section in powder or soft snow but as it gets harder its stiffer flex passes the slow bumpy ride back to you a bit.

Approximate Weight– You could feel the extra weight in the Totally FK’n Awesome over the BSOD.  We’d like to see them lighten it up.

Edge Hold: Just like the BSOD the edge hold is excellent and isn’t to overly grabby like Magnetraction can be at times. If you keep this up the hybrid camber along with the extension in the middle makes for a lot of grip around the feet and will hold an edge in any condition you want to ride.  If you are dealing with a lot of ice you might be better suited with magnetraction rides but for everything else this is more than fine.

Flex: This is a stiff board but it doesn’t act as bad as you would think when you get it on the hill.  The hybrid camber helps you butter a little easier than a camber board of this flex but it’s still not easy. This felt a little stiffer than the BSOD.

Switch: This is a directional board but it seems a bit on the twinish side.  It wasn’t bad riding switch but you could tell the difference when you did.

Rails/Jibbing: Not that much fun.  It’s too stiff.

Pipe: Many people like a stiffer more aggressive board in the pipe.  Like the BSOD it can be a little unforgiving but for the most part this is a great pipe board.  Again we liked the BSOD a little better here but this could go either way.

Jumps: The new hybrid camber tech is pretty springy.  We had fun generating our own air.  It’s not a #1 but it’s closer to the the top of it’s class.  It’s also good for those who like to go big off a man made kicker.

So at first we were wondering why Capita would make a board so similar to the BSOD.  However after riding the Totally FK’n Awesome we found it does have it’s own personality and could fill a niche for some riders that want cheaper and more aggressive than the BSOD.
