Approximate Weight:

The Burton 3D Double Dog has a light-ish poppy feel that doesn’t feel chattery (We don’t put in the exact weight because with wood cores there is no consistency in a boards weight)

Sizing

The 158 Burton 3D Double Dog felt just right for my specs. Here are some ideal US boot sizes for these boards. You can of course go bigger or smaller but these work best for not turning the board slower than it should be and not having the dreaded Toe & Heel Drag.
158: 9-10

Shape/Camber/On Snow Feel/Ability Level

The Burton 3D Double Dog is tapered and directional but barely feels that way. The ride is not very washy on the tail without more back footed weight. This board want’s to track from one air to another and that is where it seems happiest.

There is directional camber happening but it also has lots of unique bends in the tip/tail that you don’t feel on groomers. There isn’t that edgless washy feel that you can get with some boards that have lifted sides but it also isn’t forgiving or easy to ride.

Flex Personality

There is a pretty medium stiff flex from tail to past the front binding. The nose is softer. It butters pretty well and has an easy flex on a nose butter. The tail is manageable but takes a little more work. I didn’t feel the Burton 3D Double Dog wash when I leaned into a butter but if you commit too much you might find yourself washing out if you lean too much into the 3D tech that has a bend in the middle of the nose.

Uneven Terrain

The Burton 3D Double Dog has a flex personality that pops super well on an ollie but doesn’t get too cranky in uneven terrain and it held up really well in the uneven off piste snow I rode it in. It also didn’t get too chattery in micro bumpy spring snow in the morning.

Speed

The base had good glide but not exceptional glide like many older Burton boards did. I think the chalky issues that we had in 2021 with other family tree boards is gone. If it isn’t the Burton 3D Double Dog just needs a base grind or several waxes & scrapes.

Edge Hold

Every time I hit a hard patch the Burton 3D Double Dog let go. It isn’t any worse than other Directional camber boards but I just found Burton to be a little behind most other rides with a similar camber profile and sidecut.

Turning Experience/Carving

So the Burton 3D Double Dog is quick to initiate a turn but once it is on edge it doesn’t accelerate across the groomer. It seems to like a more down the line turn that is more friendly for longer turns closer to a straight line. There is great spring out of a turn.

Powder

I would have really liked to try the Burton 3D Double Dog in powder but there was none. I have really enjoyed 3D boards in powder in the past. Especially with the 3D Daily Driver and even more so with the 3D fish. With a 22” stance width you can get -2.5” back from center of board but that isn’t that much for a freeride board. With a 23” stance width you can go -4″ back but that is a pretty wide stance width for most that would ride a 158. That is pretty good directional float but not exceptional float.

Conclusion

So if you want a board that has a centered double ender air like feel in a tapered directional shape the Burton 3D Double Dog will be a great call.
