Days:  4
Conditions:  Good Sierra snow to Spring conditions that were hard in the morning, medium mid day and soft to slushy in the afternoon.
Riders: James, Peter, Jimbo, Matt
Boots: Burton SLX, Burton AMB, Burton Imperial, Burton Rover, Nike Lunarendore
Bindings: Union Atlas, Burton Genesis, Union Force, Union Ultra
Set Up: Always Centered approximately 23″ wide 15 front -15 back.

Approximate Weight: Felt medium bordering on light.

Flex: Pretty medium bordering on medium stiff but with a light snappy feel on snow.  Still it was ok to butter and felt a little softer in the tip/tail. The 2018 should be a little easier to butter and have a little softer flex but not by too much and it should still be just as damp.

On Snow Feel:  The hybrid camber shape is a bit unique.  It’s camber between the feet and then going to flat and then rocker as you get towards the tip/tail.  We tested this last season and just by looking at the board we thought it was camber with a slow transition to rocker.  On snow it felt more like a camber to rocker board too. It was stable flat basing, easy to one foot and had that camber feel that wasn’t too catchy.

Edge Hold: Missing that magic edge hold that we’d like to see for a mountain board. It’s fine in medium snow on down but we would of liked to see more.   The death grip on the heel side is a bit weird and some of us could feel more grip on the heel side turns. I would of liked to see death grip on both sides and just maybe different shape death grips to match the different side cuts as it felt a little lopsided.

Turn Initiation:  Not super fast but fast.  We all had mixed opinions on this.  Peter felt it was medium edge to edge where I felt it was med/fast and the rest of the crew was on my side or Peters.  Still short to wide radius turns were pretty fun.

Turning Experience:  It’s got a pretty fun surfy feel for a twin and we felt it’s great to just get out and turn all over the mountain with the Capita Spring Break Twin.

Skidded Turns: Pretty easy but a little catchy compared to some hybrid camber rides.  Still pretty forgiving.

Carving:  This was pretty fun to carve regular or switch as long as the snow was soft.  So even though this has a very similar camber profile to the Capita DOA we didn’t feel the flat like we did when we laid into a harder carving turn like we did with the DOA

Powder:  We didn’t have any powder but instead had just a little spring slush.  The Spring Break seems like it would be very good for a twin with that big nose and tail. It’s not a board you should set back.  It’s asymmetrical side cuts mean it’s best to be centered on the board with a duck stance so it’s not for those that like set back directional riding.  Based on how it handled slush this seems like it would be very good for a twin.

Speed: It’s got some good mountain speed and it’s right up there with many all mountain boards.  The tip/tail were a little chattery but not bad enough to be a problem. This is where the all mountain in all mountain freestyle comes into play and it’s a good board for riding switch or regular.

Uneven Terrain: What’s nice about Capita boards like the Spring Break Twin is how crisp and snappy they feel but what can be a negative is how it works in uneven snow.  Its fine turning in messy snow or around bumps but it can get a little cranky and pass up chatter into the joints when it’s harder and uneven.

Switch: As good as it gets switch and that’s what we love about Asymmetrical Twins like this.  It makes you a better switch rider as long as you center and duck the ride.  If you aren’t centered or ducked out you might like a true twin or directional twin better.

Jibbing: Not a jibber and we didn’t really focus on that. With the medium to med/stiff flex it didn’t feel like the best call there for us.

Pipe: We only had a little time in a smaller pipe and the tip/tail felt a little big but overall it’s not a bad board in the pipe as long as it’s not too icy.

Jumps: The Capita Spring Break Twin is a pop machine just like the DOA.  If you like air and twins that can handle powder pretty well this is a great call.  It’s swing weight is a little heavy but man it pops well and it’s a great board for treating the mountain like a jump park. It’s also not bad off a kicker either.  It has a stable catch free camber approach, nice spring off the lip and a nice stable landing.  If your landing is off and a little tail heavy it will be ok and you might not wash out.

So all in all the Capita Spring Break is a fun Asymmetrical Twin and although it didn’t make the favorites list it still has a lot of good qualities for the right rider.
