Holden Halter Pant 2016 Review by The Good Ride

The Holden Halter Pant is a good fitting pant and fits my out of shape pre-season waist well. I liked having the waist adjustability of the pant on the outside.  Also, really liked to see fleece in the butt and knees.  I think more pants should have that.

Ethics Statement: We don’t get paid by the manufacturer to write these reviews.  No one is perfect and we do make money from the “Where To Buy” links below, but this is our best attempt at an honest and objective review from an average riders’ perspective.

Size Tried: Medium
James’ Specs:
Height: 5’10”,
Weight: 200 lbs,
Waist: 33”
Hips: 42”
Inseam 30”
Upper Thigh 24.5”
Middle Thigh 22”
Calves 17”

Fit: So being at the borderline between a medium and large waist I’m glad to see it could handle what I had around my belly at the time of this review.  I vary in weight throughout the year so it can handle me at my worst as you see in the vid or my best which is 10-20lbs lighter. I felt no tightness in the thigh area and the pant’s felt great to move in.

Construction: I only noticed a few minor stitching errors here and there like a little of the stitching sticking out but overall the pants were very well constructed and look like they could last a long time.  The zippered pockets seem like they will be hard on the fingers going in/out and that could get annoying over time.

Insulation/Warmth: I wish more pants had fleece in the butt and knees.  I love shells but those are the only 2 places I can get cold when riding so it’s great to see that going on with these pants.  What I also love about fleece in the butt/knees is it doesn’t get too hot on warmer days either.

Waterproofing: We haven’t really tested these pants out on the hill so can’t say for sure but with another pair of Holdens I owned years ago I felt that the waterproofing and breathability were on par with what they stated and maybe even a bit better than some who also rake their Pants 10k.  These days 10k is just average waterproofing but it works.  You might want to go with something more pricey that has better waterproofing if you see a lot of wet weather or you can just be diligent with maintaining the waterproofing.

Breathability: Seems like it’s pretty close to how it’s stated.

Overall: Holden used to make such tight outerwear that it wasn’t for builds like mine.  These days I could make pants like the Holden Halter part of my wardrobe and would have no problem wearing these.
