Summary

The Trew PowFunk Jacket offers up strong breathability, almost as strong waterproofing and a durable but not too thick 3 layer fabric that we liked. It runs a little on the tighter side but it's not a bad choice if you want a well-built jacket that is off the beaten path.

TREW Powfunk Past Reviews

The TREW Pow Funk Jacket is well built solid design that works well for backcountry or mountain riders that see a lot of weather and require top-notch breathability.

The 2016 Trew Pow Funk Jacket has come a long way since I’ve reviewed it in 2014.  The waterproofing is the same but the breathability is twice as good at 40k.  It’s also a much thinner material.

Turn On’s: Size L Jackets that fit well around my chest, size M pants that fit well around my thighs so I can get in and out of my pockets, open roads, Surfy Powder Turns, Riding with Friends, new gear and especially my super-hot super smart super funny wife.
Turn Off’s: Size L Jackets that don’t fit well around my chest, super tight Size M Pants that I can’t get up over my thighs, traffic and people who can’t park inside the lines.

The Tru Pow Funk Jacket is a well made 3 layer shell that offers up really solid protection for those that see a lot of weather.  A lot of people feel that a jacket has to be Gore-Tex at this price but 20,000 waterproofing, 20,000 breathability and three layers with an insert (not a laminate) is right there with most Gore-Tex jackets in this price range.

You have a lot of pockets and really the only complaint is the media pocket is a bit snug for larger phones like the Samsung Galaxy Series phones but if you have an iPhone then it will fit perfectly. If you have a larger phone like I have (Galaxy III) then it will fit but when the plug is in it’s pretty snug.

Trew markets equally to snowboarders and skiers and I like to see this.  Many higher-end technical outerwear companies send out material with skiers on every page and then one snowboarder.  Trew keeps it even and it seems like they are truly agnostic when it comes to who buys their gear.

So, all in all, you have a very solid waterproof jacket for those that want high end but also want to have a unique brand.
